Prediabetes
Taxonomy Code: YF-3000.2440-650
A condition that is characterized by higher than normal blood sugar levels but levels that are not high enough to be characterized as type 2 diabetes. People who have prediabetes may already be experiencing the beginning of long-term damage of diabetes, especially to the heart, blood vessels and kidneys. Progression from prediabetes to type 2 diabetes isn't inevitable. Eating healthy foods, incorporating physical activity in one's daily routine and maintaining a healthy weight can help bring blood sugar levels back to normal. Prediabetes affects both adults and children. The same lifestyle changes that can help prevent progression to diabetes in adults might also help bring children's blood sugar levels back to normal.
