Wounds that are caused by needles that accidentally puncture the skin and put the individual at risk for injection of hazardous drugs or infectious diseases, especially blood-borne viruses, including AIDS, hepatitis B and hepatitis C. Needlestick injuries are a hazard for people such as nurses, laboratory technicians, physicians and veterinary staff who work with hypodermic syringes and other needle equipment.
