Marine Engineers

Taxonomy Code: YO-0250.1900-400

Individuals who install boiler-room equipment and propulsion machinery, refrigeration equipment, piping and other functional equipment in marine craft. They are particularly concerned with the design of ship engines including diesel engines, steam turbines, gas turbines and nuclear reactors. They also design and install a whole array of intricate ship inner workings including onboard mechanical, electrical, fluid, control, and heating and ventilation systems; and may spend most of their time on ships operating and maintaining these systems. Marine engineers work on structures other than ships and may, for example, oversee the installation and repair of marine power plants, harbors, docks and offshore drilling platforms.
